HAVING only ever flown economy on long-haul trips, I quickly became accustomed to the creature comforts of Business Class aboard a recent Air Mauritius flight from Perth.
Being an overnight flight departing at 1.30am, it was comforting to know we would arrive feeling fresh on our early morning arrival, and ready to take in the magnificent sights, food and cultural experiences of Mauritius.
The cabin crew aboard our Airbus A-340 flight attended to our every need during our 7½- hour journey, starting with refreshments and sandwiches soon after take-off.
The light shades in our free travel packs came in handy as we soon settled back for a sleep – stretching out our seat capsules to the horizontal position – making adjustments to different parts of the seat with the push of a button for maximum comfort.
As the pitch darkness of the night sky over the Indian Ocean turned to daylight, our attention turned to coffee and choosing between the crepes with scrambled eggs or the asparagus omelette for breakfast.
Air Mauritius flights until October 30 depart Perth at 1.35am on Mondays, arriving at 6.20am local time.
There will be twice weekly services operating from December 16 to January 28. The 1.30am Monday flight will be on the A-330 aircraft configured with 24 Business Class seats, while the bigger A-340s will be used on the Friday morning flights departing Perth at 1.30am.
Flights arrive at 6am local time.
With convenient connections to London and Paris, Mauritius is a perfect stopover destination as well as a beautiful place to holiday in its own right.
