EXPERIENCE the joy of observing and learning about the beautiful monarch butterflies in a garden planned to provide a habitat for the breeding and conservation of the creatures at 2 Allen Close, Rockingham, on January 23 and 24 from 10.30am to 4pm.
Owners Vanessa and Robert Lee are opening up their garden to the public as part of Australia’s Open Garden Scheme: Gardening for Living.
Mr Lee said the entire garden had been planted to provide a habitat for the butterflies as much of their natural habitat was fast disappearing with land clearing.
After much research, the couple planted a significant collection of buddleias and other nectar plants for attracting butterflies.
A visit to the garden is a must for anyone else who would like to do the same, as there is a wealth of knowledge to share on the beautiful insects.
There will also be an opportunity to buy plants that help attract the butterflies.
Entry is $6 for adults, while children under 18 are admitted free.
Part of the entry fee is dedicated to funding garden related projects throughout WA.
The scheme approved five gardening grants for projects last year.
