PROMISING young racer Todd Waddell won the Sprintcar feature race at Perth Motorplex on Saturday night, overcoming some of the best speedway talent in WA for his first feature race win.

Waddell started from pole position and could not be passed, crossing the finish line ahead of David Ellement and Troy Lawson.

The 21-year-old has already carved out a successful speedway career in Junior Sedans and Speedcars and was happy to claim his first win in the elite Sprintcar category.

“We have only just put this team together and if the team keeps putting together cars like that, we are going to have more wins,” he said.

The race had to be restarted after just one lap when Robert Watson Jnr and David Priolo came together, sending Watson into a flip.

There was also spectacular action in earlier heat races when Mark Wells crashed a new car after going into a big wheel stand.

In other divisions, Kanne Manuel made his tow from Kalgoorlie worth the trip with a win in the 360 Sprintcars, while Scott Glazebrook took out the Speedcars.

Kodee Brown was too good in the Super Sedans and Mark Duncombe won the Late Model category. Scott Elst raced to the win in the Junior Sedans.

The next speedway event at Perth Motorplex will be one of the biggest it has ever hosted when the World Series Sprintcars Grand Final kicks off from February 5 to 6.

After battling across the country, the World Series Sprintcars will converge on WA to decide the final round in an exciting climax.
