TWO members of the Southlake Dolphins swim team are off to Sydney to compete in the 2010 Telstra Australian Swimming Championships at the end of the month.
Seventeen-year-old Madeleine Scott, winner of Wheelchair Sports WA’s Junior Athlete of the Year 2009, has been training hard in preparation for the meet, which could lead her to being selected for the Commonwealth Games and the IPC Championships in either breaststroke or butterfly.
“There are three events in the Commonwealth Games that she’s eligible for,” head coach Stacey Scott said.
“She’s ranked second in the 100 fly but her time needs to get a little quicker.”
Joining Scott at his first competition of this size is 15-year-old Tommy Sucipto who is ranked in the top two for 50m breaststroke, and top 10 for 100m.
“Tommy is fairly nervous … he’s done age nationals before, but open is much larger,” the coach said.
In preparation, the pair have been training 12 times a week.
