LOCAL artist Murray Gill will scoot into the Subi Farmers Market for a story-time session in front of a young audience this Saturday morning.
Normally creating acrylic paintings with a focus on fun, Murray has just released a children’s book about the time his prized 1968 Vespa Sprint scooter went missing.
He has described the book Dad’s Scooter as “an exciting and gripping read” that should keep children aged up to eight years enthralled, especially when he brings the story to life this Saturday.
A big fan of scooters, Gill said he became “a groover again” when he bought his current Vespa about a decade ago after several years as “a bit of a non-entity” when he settled for four wheels.
“When I’m riding around on my scooter, Subiaco is not Subiaco anymore, it’s Paris or Milan and I’ve got Audrey Hepburn sitting on the back,” he said.
Regularly visiting the weekly farmers markets at Subiaco Primary School for produce like avocados, Gill said sampling treats like the “cheeky passionfruit mascarpone cheese” had made him something of a connoisseur.
“I’m a really big supporter of markets and enjoy the interaction there, which you just don’t get in the big retail stores,” he said.
Gill will read his story, with its series of 24 watercolour and acrylic scenes, at the market from 9.45am on Saturday.
Market organiser Sally Lewis has encouraged fellow scooter riders to come along from 8am to midday to receive a free |coffee.
