FOR the second time in less than five years Little Caesars chef and owner Theo Kalogeracos has been named the world’s best pizza maker.
Two weeks ago, Mr Kalogeracos won the 2010 World Champion Pizza Maker in Las Vegas, after taking out the same competition in 2006 when it was called the Las Vegas Italian Chef Wars.
It adds to the bevy of awards he has won over the years, catapulting Little Caesars into the national and international spotlight.
This month’s win also marks a competition first, as Mr Kalogeracos was the first pizza maker to win with a desert pizza in the non-traditional blind bake off.
Mr Kalogeracos said he knew he was taking a chance by entering his desert pizza he dubbed strawberry fields.
“I thought they’re either going to love it or hate it, but we’ve been doing desert pizzas in Mundaring for 15 years now and we’re quite good at it,” he said. “When I handed it to the judges they didn’t know what do to with it.”
Despite all the success, Mr Kalogeracos said he still does not expect to win competitions.
He said he was working on expanding the Great Eastern Highway shop so more people can sit inside the eatery.
