A CITY of Stirling resident is taking part in a new fostering program to help abandoned dogs re-adjust to family life.
Kathleen Richards said the program, organised by the Dogs’ Refuge Home in Shenton Park, focused on helping long-term refuge dogs find suitable and permanent homes.
Ms Richards, who has volunteered at the refuge for many years, is the first person to join the program – she is fostering Lilah, a three-year-old staffordshire-cross who has been homeless for more than two years.
“After fostering Lilah, I can give the home valuable feedback – in her case that she is a beautifully-natured dog who is very intelligent, house-trained and excellent with other dogs,” Ms Richards said.
“Fostering is also good if you want to see if the dog fits in with you and the rest of your family – then you can always offer it a permanent home.”
Ms Richards said it was extremely rewarding to be part of an animals re-homing.
