Decision devastates

AS the owners of the Bindoon Bakery, soon to be Bindoon Bakehaus and cafe, Anne Maree and I are devastated to learn that our councillors have voted to exclude the Targa West Rally from Chittering’s calendar of events.

Prior to making such a significant decision, we would have appreciated the councillors canvassing our views given the impact this decision will have on our business.

What has been cancelled is the most significant weekend of the year for us in terms of the bakery’s turnover, staff employment opportunities, and the goodwill we have come to enjoy and appreciate over the two days.

In addition, the rally drivers and crews would call into the bakery months prior to the event and our staff enjoyed the interaction and camaraderie that has built up over the years.

It is unthinkable that the goodwill that has been established has been cast aside for a very small group of disgruntled people.

The impact on our business and our staff has very obviously not been fully considered when the councillors decided to scrap the rally for Chittering and we would very much appreciate this decision being reconsidered in time for this year’s event.

Something that is of even greater importance to the town of Bindoon is the social interaction we enjoy with people who turn out to visit the Bindoon Oval to look at the cars or stand on the roadside to watch the rally.

What has been created over the years is truly amazing. We have families living in Bindoon that make an effort to arrange to get together with their neighbours over the two days of the rally.

It has taken this rally to bring people out of their houses to have some fun while watching an exciting sport that is being conducted in a responsible and controlled manner.

We wish we had been aware of council’s view prior to us investing such a lot of money in a new bakery in the town.

We have worked very hard to put Bindoon on the map as can be evidenced by our awards and our increased trading, and the advertising we gain from the rally cannot be discounted.

Instead of bellyaching, kick 'em out ... the councillors I mean!
Next time there's a Council election, rally a few strong minded individuals to stand in opposition to those councillors who were part of the decision. The rest of the community can help with advertising, door knocking, census taking, being brutally honest about how their Council doesn't care about the fine community in Chittering.
About caring for the wallet / bank balance. Isn't that the name of the game? If the businesses go 'belly-up' the community dies ... then everyone's bank balance is effected ... true? Then common sense dictates that everyone become proactive ... do something about it! If you're not interested in what is happening, and don't want to make the change, then stop providing negative comment on such an important issue!
Those who are TRULY concerned, remember the maxim ... don't get mad ... get even!

How are the people of Bindoon and other areas going to get to the bakehouse to get their daily bread if the roads are closed for a rally that stops other people going about their normal daily business !

Laanecoorie, please excuse 'Community Minded' for it is confused. What it meant to say was that half the population of Perth would not know what the hell Targa West is, the other half dont care. So much for the exposure that the event beings to our community. If you saw the news article about the axing of the super cars from Perth, the Channel 7 reporter said "at least Perth still has the Red Bull Race. Great exposure CM, wot!

No. What a limited view you have Laanecoorie! Half the population of Perth never ventures out to Bindoon so by having an event there and enticing people out of the metro area MAY, just MAY enlighten people to come back again, and again....it is not about the ONE EVENT, it is about what else can happen.

I thinks someone needs to go back to business school as it isn't best practise to expand a business on a two day event. So, are we dramatising again about perceived benefits Targa West is supposed to bring to the shire. At the end of the day, the only one (or thing) that benefitted according to you, is your bank balance.

Such a shame when the rally had so much support. The Council should be ashamed for making that decision - who are you councillors working for????
